Here are a few examples to show you how I work. I use quick, high contrast eye-level sketches to illustrate lay out fill, height zones and color in paralell with picking out plants that will look great and help build the local ecosystem, prioritizing low-maintenance options. The gaol is to create a solid all-season framework rather than a tight short-term plan. Plants will grow and change over time!
A tree came down in a storm, creating a new opportunity for a sunny, flower-heavy garden. It includes many natives, a variety of colors for a loosly organized front-yard friendly space. Rock edging was sourced from materials found on site.
A quick and simple update to a municipal building sign (Lexington, DPW building): focus on all-season color, minimal maintenance needs, and making sure the sign would be readable as the plants grow.
These photos are of my garden - many of the spaces started with post-construction bare dirt. This is where I experiment!
